The past few weeks I've noticed several wheel and/or assassin bugs out and about around campus. One was dead following a hard frost the previous night, and the other was very much alive and alert (fled the hanrail it was perched on when i got too close)

I find it odd since i've seen alot of other different kinds of insects around campus, but never any of that family of predators, until jsut recently. Wonder if maybe they overwinter like ladybugs and so are mor active due to finding a den?

Many hemipterans live more than just one season and will overwinter. Giant water bugs (Belostomatidae), for example, may overwinter in very moist soil or in the water under frozen-over ponds or lakes. Terrestrial species, such as reduviids, may overwinter in crevices or other areas that are not exposed as much to the harsh weather.

It will never cease to amaze me what something so small is capable of surviving, and doing for that matter.
