This morning I went ahead and got out my little A. chalcodes sling that had the bad molt yesterday. I decided to just poke a hole in the soil of my spider plant and tuck them in there. Grounds frozen outside and it felt appropriate. This absolutely boggled my nephew who simply throws his in the compost apparently. So I was curious what everyone's preferred method after a loss was to dispose of any tarantula remains.

I toss it into isopods enclosure.
The ciiiiiircle of life

Depends. My only losses have been a couple slings (go figure) so they go in the bin or preserved in resin. When I have adults pass, they'll be mounted for display.

Definitely an outside burial with a tiny cross made out of matchsticks

I pray for a zombie tarantula one day

My reason for not burying is they'll come around and not actually be dead, dig their way out the ground and come back for me to exact revenge :shy:

It depends on the condition. If it's still "pretty" I'll try to preserve it for display (dried and under glass in a shadow box). If it's in bad shape (death after a bad molt, or too far gone with decomposition because it died underground and I didn't know it was dead/dig it out right away) then it goes into the trash.

Just a thank you and a simple voyage into the trash bag. Their bodies are just empty shells at that point. I feel the same way about humans (myself included) when that time comes.

I will definitely preserve mine if any dies, I've only had one death (sling) so far and I didn't have the material needed to preserve it so I had to put it in the compost but I hated the experience....I felt insanely bad to dispose of it like this, I know it's silly but I can't help it

All I can picture is a tarantula on a rock with a spiderling in between its palps and then it suddenly just launching the little thing across the enclosure lmao.

I would 110% step on a tiny cross and manage to impale my foot.

I get it. I've tossed previous ones I've had that died either out into the woods or I buried them in my garden, but the grounds cold so not a good time to be digging. I thought about throwing this sling into the trash and just couldn't do it this time. It just didn't feel right, and made me feel like a jerk, so I figured houseplant was the next best thing. Plus it'll be kind of funny to see peoples faces if I tell them my spider plant is fertilized with actual spiders.

My fiance casts insects and arachnids in resin as a hobby. He's done a great job preserving some of my tarantulas and scorpions that died.
