I was using a ceramic heater pointed at it and that would get it into the upper 90s but it made my room too warm for me.

I bought a 50 watt heat rope and tried putting it on the side but the temp just wasn't getting as high as I wanted so I put it on the bottom. Now I am only getting 85 degrees.

What would be a good way to get the temp into the upper 90's without heating up the rest of my room so much like the heater did?

temps

85F isn;t bad, but I see many using a zoo-med heat pad taped to the bottom. Use the aluminum tape you buy at the local hardware store.

I'm trying something similar, but it needs to be about those temps inside the container while it's outside. Click the link in my sig for more info.

This is exactly what I use, thanks to James and it has worked perfectly for over a year. I used the aluminum tape and taped the ZooMed heat cable to a piece of plywood about an inch apart, swirling it all over. (heat rises, so underneath is best)
I also use soda pop plastic caps glued to the plywood for stilts...My colony of Blaptica dubia, is at 80 to 85 degrees and has multiplied at a unbelievable pace..

I use an aquarium stand. Two rolled up newspapers and lay the rubber maid container on top of the papers. I have a shielded light under that. It doesn not heat anything other than the tank.
