Hey guys.

I have a question about the spider. I have a bunch of these little girls outside my door and I wanted to know what type it is? I would love to just grab one and keep it. I have a bunch of Ts but never kept an outdoor spider. Wonder if any can give me some details? I am guessing it is pretty common since they are everywhere outside.

If they build huge orb webs, that’s an Araneus gemma. Sadly, you’d have to have the space to allow them to build their huge net to hunt.

The web's they build can often be huge.I've seen silk suspension strands that were well over 5 feet long.

I don't recommend taking one however, would you like to be kidnapped by a giant?

Yes! Thank you! Their webs are gigantic. So I will leave them be. Some of them have made beautiful webs but people get freaked out even though it's a really tiny spider.

Lol yes very true. I will let them be. I hate going out at night because sometimes they make a web right outside my door and it destroys all their work. Crazy that they build auch a large net every night. Thank you for the details.

I try to educate them, but fear is strong. In prior years I’ve seen more Neoscona crucifera, but I’ve only really seen a prolific amount of gemmas this year. They are in my top 5 true spiders.
