What to Feed Crickets?

I usually leave a dog treat in the cage with my crickets to keep them full so that the T gets the nutriants from a gut loaded cricket & it keep the hungry littlle critters from nibbling on my T.

Anybody else do this?
Anything better?

Remember what you feed your crickets is what you feed your T....When i Feed my crickets i feed them lettus and carrots...plump them up fast with those veggies and feed them fat crickets to your T....this is just what i do !! :clap:

Go to www.flukerfarms.com. They have an item called orange cubes. This is food and water in the same cube for feeding crickets. It works great.

I try to feed them apples, oranges, potato, anything with good water content so they are nice and juicy when they are fed. Moisture is a big concern of mine with my crix, and when I buy crix from the store, I put them into a container for 2-3 day to let the fatten up a bit on some juicy items and I've also heard of people feeding crix to their Ts and having numerous Ts die within a couple of days. Most pet stores don't feed or water their crix and the ones we have around here only get crix in once a week, so those crix sit for 6-7 days without any water, by that time they aren't nearly as juicy as they could be. I also use that gel water stuff to keep them hydrated.

I also feed them some cricket food, dog food and cat food. I have a colony of roaches that get the same treatment.

my recipe

What I do to feed my pinkhead criket or any criket is, I usually blend, apple, mango, banana, milk powder, granola, honey, glicerine, and other ingredients, then I feed them every day or 2 with new food. I store the food in the freezer. the recipe last for one month aprox.

They seem to love this diet, the grow up fast and chubby, and they do not need water.

I feed my crickets anything from the categorie of fruits and veggies. I want to keep my crickets healthy, living, fat so it would be good for my T. So that's what I feed my crickets.

I made my own cricket meal. I combined equal parts of hihg-protein color enhancing tropical fish flakes with Fruity Pebbles, ran it in the blender until it was a nice powder. Made a full ziplock bag of the stuff and I've been using that for nearly a year now. The crickets love it. I"ve also been using the water gel stuff for them.

I've been using one of the prepared cricket cubes and I've noticed that the crickets don't have as strong of an odor as when I was using fresh veggies.

I think we're all on the right track here..

High water content food.. = T getting lots of water too.

Neutral-ish foods. like apples, carots.. not cabbage and raddishes..
not that it WOULD cause a prob.. but hey .. you never know..

I use the flukers water crystals myself.. and soon it'll be

ROACHES all the way..

On a funny note - there is a higher water content in a cucumber than there is in a lake! 97%! So "they" say anyway... That's why I'd never waste money on any kinds of water crystals, however fancy they might be!

So I give them cat food/dog food, cucumber to fatten them up... IF I use crickets... or WHEN I used crickets. Nowadays I don't use them anymore, because my dubia colony already contains more individuals than I can handle!

I like to feed my crickets various things. I use oatmeal, carrots, lettuce, potato, and dog or cat food. I occasionally give them ferret food as well.

i feed my crickets a shredding of mango, apple, potato, carrots,pear along with orange cubes gut load, and then a slurry of oats and fishflakes. I let them choose what they want to eat. I an also breeding my own crickets and having great sucess with this diet. I have 4 bearded dragons 5 T's and 5 scorps( 1 baby 3 mos old and the rest are adults which 3 are pregnant) I also feed my guys wax & silk worms for treats!

Doesn't sound too bad... problem is, I don't really know how much a gallon is.. Well... but I guess it might be rather equal to 5 gallons of cucumber... in price I mean. Or maybe it's less, dunno

A small bag of Soil Moist cost me about $3. I only use a pinch per container so that bag will last the rest of my life since I can keep adding water to it.

For food I am using goldfish flakes I have and when that runs out I'll use the bag of dog food I bought from the dollar store for $1(imagine that).

My roaches get the Soil Moist, dog food, chicken mash, and vegetables.

I was using not the orange cubes but some green cubes from the same company that costs less and had bigger containers but once my cricket babies started hatching I quickly saw how much more it would cost me to keep using that.

Where do the green cubes go now? My centipede loves them and tears them apart, so I guess he can have the rest.

Okay, choice B would go along with what most have been posting. I use raw potato and crushed dog kibble. Water crystals are a good option as well.
