What to do with this tank.

I picked up this tank at a thrift store for $15. It's in good condition and was pretty cheap so I couldn't pass it up.

But I don't know what to put in it. I'm leaning towards getting back into snakes, all I have are tarantulas right now.

So give me some suggestions please.

how abouts a black cat?

or you could try to fabricate some sort of tri-plex for tarantulas by adding some plexi-glass, nice cage for fifteen bucks.

The first thing that come to mind to me is BP, but you'd probaby have humidity problems like mad. Cornsnake, Milk or King might do well. Btw, how big is the tank?

And what kind of snakes do you like and have you kept?

The tank is about 48" long by 15" across by 16" deep.

I've kept corn snakes and rosy boas before. I like kingsnakes but have never kept one. Might go with one of those.

Misfitsfiend, I just looked up rainbow boas. Wow, they're beautiful. Do you know how much they generally cost?

I was going to suggest a kingnake as well. My personal favorites are the Florida Kingsnake. Here is Valjean with my daughter!
There's a pic of one with my daughter on my home page if you want to see one...
Great snake, but eats like MAD. You have to be careful not to over feed. He is very nice, but because of his insasiable apetite, he sometimes strikes without checking it out first....ouch! ;)

I've seen CB BRB for around $100 at the reptile shows, and I bet you could talk some of the people down from there even. But someone posted an awesome black and white kingsnake here recently that was amazing looking.

Id say go for the BRB's. Im not really up on what their market value is now, but last I saw they were going for ATLEAST $150 each...although the price may have dropped recently. And its not every day you find one at a show for $100, or atleast ive never seen it. Thats a good deal, go for it :)

You could always get some plexiglass and make some nice dividers - that way you could get more than one new pet :)

i have 2 bearded dragons in a 100 gallon tank
is it screen top? if yes you could turn it on it's side, add a branch and a chameleon.... but they are not as easy to care for as dragons, iguanas or a snake as far as i heard.
what about a lion fish?

My concern with the BRB's is the high humidity requirement. (I think it's around 80% from memory). I haven't tried to keep one yet.

It's not that high, I heard it was around 65%-70, Thats not to hard to do, just cover half or more of the screen lid with plastic wrap. works really well.

I had my BRB in a similar tank, and keeping humidity up was a PITA! Cover about 90% of the top woth plexi if you're determined to make it work, that's what I wound up doing with mine.

(Then I broke the tank and made it irrelevant anyways...I'm such a clutz... :8o )

What to do...

Have you considered a Hogg Island Boa? The colors of the trim on the tank would highlight the salmon coloration of the Hogg Island. Plus they are getting rarer, we've aquired a male and female for breeding purposes a few years down the road.

Go with a corn, you won't regret it. More active and just as colourful as any rainbow boa. And you don't have to worry about finding large rats to feed. Mice would do for a corn, for it's lifetime.
