What to do when you receive the wrong spider?

Hi guys,

I ordered a 3cm E. Campestratus, but today arrived a container saying "minax". Not knowing what it meant I opened it, there was a T inside, but it seemed smaller than 3cm.

I put it in my E. Camps enclosure I made, but I'm sure this is the wrong spider? It's maybe 2cm max and it's black and hairy.

How do I ship back a spider? Should I even bother? Do I keep it or what? If I get sent someone elses spider is that theft?

It's small and pitch black and hairy

I would contact the seller ASAP, and let the seller know what’s going on.
I bought it from a local website. I email support but no reply yet

I'm laughing at this,not at your problem,but it's a small black,hairy baby spider.
Yep,could be anything.Hope you don't take offense to my response.
Lately,I have been seeking any kind of humor.Let the person/dealer or breeder know, and ask questions.Hey, maybe the seller will let you keep the" mystery spood", and refund the price you paid,or ship the E.camps for free!.Such a deal!!.
See you already contacted seller.I would bet they will say just keep the sling, and we will ship the right animal. But,being in S.Africa, who knows.

Is it possible it could be a Cyriopagopus minax? I believe they are black, I wonder if the seller mixed your order up with another one.

Oh I would be so ticked because we have been looking for an E. Campestratus and if we finally found one and it was wrong... Man, I would cry first and then contact the seller immediately.

If I were you I would keep the “minax”.
I like the way you think, but if a person isn’t ready, or willing to “enjoy” a minax, I’m thinking they may not be willing to face that “apples and oranges” difference.

C. minax and E. campestratus are nothing alike, and you'd have paid way more than what that sling is worth. Contact the seller immediately.

Do you have experience with old world tarantulas? If not, Cyriopagopus minax is not a tarantula that's beginner friendly or makes a good first old world T. They're a fast and very defensive species with a bite that will leave you in a world of hurt. It's just a small sling now, but it will grow fast and need to be rehoused before you know it, and if you're not accustomed to rehousing fast and defensive tarantulas it will not be a very enjoyable experience, especially seeing that this is a fossorial species you will likely not see often and will have to dig out of its burrow to rehouse.

If the seller doesn't require you to send back the sling in order to get the E. campestratus sent to you, then it's ultimately up to you if you choose to keep the sling. I personally wouldn't recommend it though and would advise looking to give or sell it to a more experienced hobbyist. Packing and shipping a T isn't nearly as difficult as it seems - there are several videos available on youtube to show you how to do it, and I'm sure that people here on AB will be more than happy to answer any questions you have.

Okay I got a response, they have told me it was a mistake and I can keep the Minax and will get a free E. Camp no additional charge.

I don't really know anyone else in the hobby aside from 1 friend but he's also new.
I'm going to keep it, I was watching some rehousing videos of Fossorial Old Worlds and I'm gonna do it like Tom Moran does when I need to.

Glad to hear the seller is making it right and you're getting what you paid for. I personally think it's a bad idea for you to keep the minax. If you're willing to ship, it'd be insanely easy to sell off the sling to someone and make back some of the cash you spent on the campestratus. Watching rehouse videos is no substitute for actual experience dealing with fast and defensive Ts. A bite from this species will hurt unlike anything you can imagine (unless you've been bitten by an old world tarantula before) and will likely land you in the hospital, as well as possessing the ability to kill any pets (cats, dogs) that may be in the house if it escapes. Just a bad idea all around.

Best of luck with whatever you do, hopefully the E. campestratus arrives safe and sound.

That is great they're letting you keep it and giving you what you wanted, wow that's service! Now I've learned of a new T to add to the wish list, that minax is really nice looking! Congrats!

Best shot I could get of this guy, he sits in the burrow I made all day, he hasn't started digging from what I can tell. Also wasn't interested in a roach, might be too soon. Will try again in 4 or so days.
Here is my G. Rosea who's huge right now. I observed her catch a roach, then climb up the side of the enclosure about half a cm so the roach can't reach the substrate. Fricking amazing
