What the heck is this bug?

Husband found it at work. We live in upstate Ny. Any ideas? It's about 2 1/2 inches long.

Appears to be a waterbug of sorts. Lethocerus americanus perhaps?

yeah, big predator water bug. they can give a good bite but it shouldn't really be that dangerous, per se

That is a giant water bug all right. I would also bet that it is Lethocerus americanus.
