Complete dehydration.View attachment 451645 View attachment 451646
Lol, before anyone assumes decapitation was the cod, unfortunately my one and only millipede died recently (i suspect dehydration, because i let the sub get too dry last week, idk, maybe it was age.)
RIP Penutbutter the ivory.
I put it outside to dry and came back to this!?!? The head, and I assume all the inards, are just gone… Kinda cool to have the exo cleaned out, just wish I had its head.
Nice assumptions. Who told you I was the myriapod expert?Another invert kept in " ideal" conditions by another " expert "
My millipede was already dead. It wasn't missing its head or guts when I found it dead. Only AFTER I put it outside to dry, did I find it like this. Probably got its guts eaten up by ants. I only shared because of the oddness of it.Complete dehydration.
My millipede was already dead. I just put the dead millipede outside in hopes that it would dry out and be preserved, which did seem to happen. Only, when I found it, it was missing the head and guts! I suspect ants.Did isopods eat it ? How is this even possible maybe a alien invasion took your pede and are the insides lol (jk )
.. rip sorry ..

Ended up with a cool cleaned out shell though. Maybe I'll pack it and smoke it like a blunt in honor of Dry Desert's presumptuous and likely drunken 2am response.
Agreed. Very common to see those empty shells here. Or on rare occasions seeing the ants at work which may only take a couple of hours. It's a mystery to me why the ants don't swarm the detritus and make short work of all pedes and other critters like the scorps. The deep detritus some sort of armistice zone?-ants mystery solved..
Only certain ants like army ants will eat every critter they can find .. regular ants can do the same but I’ve only witnessed it once they ate a pill bug eating spider . It got too close to their nest I guess or they were hunting .good question I’m not sure why they don’t just wiped the forest floor clean .all ants can swarm prey ..Agreed. Exactly. The ants certainly won't hesitate to attack live prey like humans or domestic animals. And the scorps are certainly fair game for them. I put a roadkill scorp near an ant trail thinking they would deliver an empty exoskeleton. A few hours later and the last pieces of the exoskeleton were being hauled off. The ants dissolved the connective tissues.I’m not sure why they don’t just wiped the forest floor clean .all ants can swarm prey ..
At a guess, depending on the species of ant, given enough time they would have or could have gone after the connective tissues and taken it apart. Enter chemistry here, the quantity and concentration of formic acid can eventually turn chitin into available proteins. Some ants possess that ability, some don't bother; can't or won't waste the resources required. They did my Pede dirty by taking its head as a trophy!
You got me. Nothing like a hearty dosage of cyanide to get my day started!Don't lie, you popped the head off and sucked all the millipede juices out for a quick protein boost
Haha .. yeah don’t go Ozzy Osborn on us and bite it’s head off… that poor bat ..it never hurt anyone it’s just a flying-rat!..You got me. Nothing like a hearty dosage of cyanide to get my day started!
I saw a video of one of my best friends in high school (we grew distant, as he went down a bad path of crime) bite the head off a rat. He was obviously completely wasted, but that visual will stick with me forever.Haha .. yeah don’t go Ozzy Osborn on us and bite it’s head off… that poor bat ..it never hurt anyone it’s just a flying-rat!..
That’s nuts !! Did he get the idea from ozzy??I can’t understand why people do such things it’s weird and wild !!!I saw a video of one of my best friends in high school (we grew distant, as he went down a bad path of crime) bite the head off a rat. Bro chewed on it and tried to swallowed it, unsuccessfully.
Alcohol, and probably peer pressure. Lol. He wasn’t an Ozzy fan to my knowledge so I dont think that was in his mind. Who knows, he was trying to be part of a “gang” so I could have seen him being pressured into it while under the influence. That’s nuts !!
