We bought some instant -grow aquatic plants from an Asian market. Within 24 hours these snails came out of no where. Does anyone know if they can be useful or just pesky?
Judging by the sheer numbers and how fast they came I would get rid of them fast. You don't want a thousand of these eventually taking nibbles out of your plants and clogging your equipment. I'd say, eventhough they will eat a little algea, they're not worth the trouble in the long run.
Well they're snails, obviously, no clue what kind though. I have a few snails of a different variety that breed like mad in my planted tank, I use them as treats for my cichlids, they adore them.
They look a lot like Tramp Snails (Bradybaena similaris) but I don't think Tramps are aquatic.
What ever they are I love to get lucky enough to get hold of them on a plant.
I'd put them in my turtle pond and see if they could control the pond weeds.
By the way, if you want to get rid of them, take them out and cook them or do whatever you want but make sure they die. Snails can infest the environment very fast.
