Well, just got my first successful mating encounter out of my new male G.rosea!:D It was really wierd compared to the local Aphenopelma species I tried to breed about 2 years ago... With them, I'd introduce a male and he'd almost immidiately go drumming along looking for his new girl, but this rosea, sheesh! Maybe he had stage fright?!?;P

I put him in earlier this evening and he just froze. Wouldn't aproach her for NUTHIN!! Tried again a few hours later and he wound up "stmbling in to her", walking half sideways away from my hands after I put him in for a 2nd try! He only seemed to realize she was there when he got close enough to draw her attention and she moved toward him... She swatted at him once and then there was about a second of tussling, and blam, he had her fangs and was tickling her tummy!:D

He got a good insert off each pedipalp and chewed on each after doing so, then disengaged and backed off, leaving her in what looked amazingly like a threat posture one would tend to associate with a VERY angry King Baboon!! He crawled up in to my palm like a whipped puppy seeking shelter (whereas he previously tried to evade my hands as if I were gonna EAT him!) and when I got him all put away and secure I looked back, and his new girlfriend was STILL in that same posture, as if waiting for more good luvin!!

Well, everyone cross your fingers (and anything else that won't be too painful to cross!) and maybe I'll get lucky!:D I'll give him another go at her in a few days, and after I've given it about 3 shots to make magic, I'll be sending him off to Cooper, and you can wish him luck on this fella next!=D

Congratulations and good luck!

I'd suggest introducing him a few times a few days apart so you're able to make sure the mating took. If it did take the female will quit showing interest in the male. If you do that, just be careful if you're sending the male on to make sure the female doesn't make him into dinner! ;)

rosies are fun!
I have a couple that have continually cohabitated for MONTHS, and sometimes, I see them both sitting in what looks like a threat position, facing each other! I'm starting to wonder if it has another significance as well.

I just partook in my first rosie mating too! It was fun, but the warm-up dancing was not that elaborate either. Actually, this was my first mating ever! (spider-wise anyway :) )

What do you mean he "chewed on his palps"? The male I used did that also, but not until he was out of her enclosure.
