I agree; not Avicularia, not arboreal, and not common in the hobby. Wouldn't surprise me if one or two individuals have specimens somewhere though.

Nice spider.

Hey Isaac, as it says above the picture it's an Ami species. That's right, Ami is a genus name. This genus was described in 2008. There are currently 7 described species in the genus, and with one exception - Ami obscura - all of them were described in the same publication as the genus. They have modified type I urticating hairs (Avicularia have type II urticating hairs), and a quite unique spermathecae structure. I know some Ami specimens were/are available for sale, at least in Europe.

Isaac, sometimes it is best to close your mouth and open your ears for a while. Don't be ashamed to admit to yourself that you have a lot to learn (as we all do). Just some constructive criticism.

so i wasnt quite sure if that was correct.
so why is ami genus hard to come by?

i am just extremely fascinated by this genus.

Off topic I know, but the fact that anyone still asks for a caresheet amazes me.

A dealer in Canada has Ami sp. Columbia for sale. It's pretty drab looking. But as a lot of us know, some of the most drab looking specimens are the coolest attitude-wise (I'm talking about you, P. cancerides and Catumiri sp.).

I guess it's because the caresheets are generally crap.

Not something the new guys would know, I suppose, but it's something all us old fogeys are well aware of. :}
