I say split it up, with seperate lids. I personally if more of a fan of displaying the variety of spides owned...pluss, they really need so little space anyway, it seems like wasting space w/a 20-gal for 1 T.

Just my opinion though - I still haven't come up with a way to split my 10-gal as of yet...But then again, I'm also lazy and uncreative

I would suggest just to go with a L. parahybana. They use up a lot of space and you won't hve to worry about wheather or not your T's on the wrong side of the devider.

I'd say split it also, unless you plan on getting a pretty large T. You can get some glass cut for it and then use non-toxic aquarium cement to glue the panes in place.

For Gods sake don't do it the way most pet stores do!

I can't count the number of times I've seen T's cross the barrier at the top, between the screen lid and the "top of the fence" and either eat their neighbor or GET eaten by it.

I've got several aquariums in the garage that I don't even use because I've seen this result in dead T's WAYYYYY too often.

I'm sure there are ways to set one up that makes it more like two self contained enclosures with ZERO path to the neighbor (barring complete escape and somehow breaking in next door!), but I STRONGLY advise not trying to put a separator in to a screen top tank with one lid.

I'm inclined to suggest saving it for a really big T as posted previously, or put fish in it as also already posted.

Yeah, normal dividers don't block the top. I fashioned something from some heavy gauge screen.

What are the tanks dimensions?

I'd look further than spiders, how about some hermit crabs or centipede? :p

I say

1. Get your self lots of substrate

2. make sure it's secure so things don't get out

3. Get ready for something nice.

4. buy your self a C. crawshayi(King Baboon), OH YEAH!! that's all I have to say.

have a nice day

King baboon also crossed my mind... Would make an awsome display if you can start a burrow close to the glass and it actually follows suit when it goes to work. I've thought about doing that with my 18 tall fish tank.

Maybe Joy Reed could show you what she does with her large aquarium that she houses her T. blondi in. It is EXTREMELY impressive!

Does anybody, or has anybody seen detailed directions on how to split a tank as such? I could probably get the glass/silicone and get the divider in, but at that point where do you find a split lid that works?

If you need instructions, than you should forget the idea of dividing a tank. It's pretty elementary; if you can't figure it out by yourself, then you're likely to screw it up even WITH instructions.

There are plenty of testimonials concerning the negative aspects of dividing tarantula cages. That's not to say that it can't be done successfully, but to do it takes attention to detail. If you have to fish for hand-holding, then you should just use individual cages.

If you click here, you will be connected to a thread that shows an incredible setup done by Joy. It doesn't have the instructions. I know they used to be posted on Petbugs.com, but I think their forum is wiped out or down right now.

It's not that I can't figure out how to do it, it's a matter of obtaining the materials to split the lid.....because of the way 10 gallons are with the plastic rim around the top.....
