What kind of glue, when building plexi enclosures?

I did four sling enclosures a week ago with plexi. And used regular hot glue. Just noticed today on one enclosure, that some pieces started to lag.

I used this really cheap glue gun --> http://www.kjell.com/content/templates/shop_main_details.aspx?item=40215&path= maybe that's the issue :D

I'm curious to what kind of glue, you guys use when working with plexi? And if you also have experienced this with hot glue?

I use WeldOn3 or WeldOn16. 3 is perfect if your edges are true, but is watery and unforgiving if your edges aren't good. 16 is great if your edges are less than perfect, as it's more goopy like a super glue.

I've had VERY bad luck with regular hot glue and will personally not use them again in enclosure creation.

Like forrest said, use WeldOn. Hot glue will not suffice with acrylic, it might work temporarily, but not long term. Glue works by using the imperfections in surfaces to stick them together, where acrylic is so smooth, the glue doesn't work well. When you're sticking plexi, its called solvent welding I believe, because it actually forms chemical bonds between the two pieces of plexi. Hope this helps ;D

Your 100% correct.. If you use the correct weld it literally welds the two pieces by altering the chemical composition of the plexi and pretty much 'melts' the bond rehardening the two pieces as one if done properly.

Yep, that's the best way to do it in that video. Super easy and sets very fast with a nice clean look. Just remember if you're using the applicator to squeeze and let a little air in before turning it over or else you will spill and possibly scar the acrylic (which can be expensive stuff!).

Does silicone work for affixing plexiglass? If it does, I have a couple extra tubes I'd be willing to part with for a couple bucks plus shipping. I don't know if you're interest or not. Plus, it would be good to know for my own use.

Ok, thanks guys. Can't find any glue with that name in Swe. But i've heard of something called Acrifix 116 or 192. That should be good with plexi, and is available here.

Didn't notice you were in Scandinavia. Now I feel the fool.

I've heard that you can mix acetone and plexi together for some really good glue. I have acetone at home and some leftover pieces.

Anyone tried this method?
