These little bastards have been screaming in the back yard for a couple days now. I can only assume that they are drawn by the neighbor's fruit trees or maybe they just like to annoy me. I had to use the long lens to get these crappy shots, every time I would try to get within a hundred feet they would fly off, then return and resume their squaking after I went inside.

In the second shot you can actually see the bird pointing at me and telling it's buddy that the assault is working. Koresh got nancy sinatra, that would almost sound pleasant compared to what I'm getting here.

I second the Nanday id. How big are they? If they are smaller there is a *slight* chance it could be a plum headed parakeet.

Is the head black or a purple color?

I third that they are Nanday Conures. I sympathize, conure screams can grate the nerves of even the most tolerant. :)

Yep, definitely a Nanday. I used to have a Nanday conure named Pacino a few years back. I had him for a year, then went on vacation and left Pacino with my sister in law. I gave her a big long list of things not to do. The only thing I neglected to put on the list was for her to NOT use the self clean feature on her oven. She did, and I came home to a dead bird :( .
He used to get out of his cage every morning and climb up my blankets. Once there he'd either screech at me, or nibble on my ear until I woke up. Needless to say I had a headache every morning.

Damn I miss that bird!

Those are Black-hooded parakeets, Nandayus nenday, they are about a foot long, found in Florida, and screech a high pitched "greeeah....
greeeah..." , not as common as Monk parakeets in Florida, but 10x as annoying. Aka Nanday conures.

UGGG! We had two of those at my work years ago....so annoying, and they have a bite too, as far as I can tell conures are some of the loudest bunch of birds ever. But hey, if you can catch them they are wrth money in New York haha :)

they are nandays. they are from south america and are some ones old pets. that is one of the biggest things in FL people let the unwanted pets out the door. in the 5 years i owned FL wild life rescue i must have gotten 200 or more old pets out of some ones yard.

my ex art teacher had a nanday that was the most gawdawful screamer i have EVER heard (above and beyond huge parrots like macaws and cockatoos)

I'm gonna step up with another "it looks like a nanday to me" they look JUST like the ones I see at the petstore (and at art class)

I'd be tempted to get rid of them one way or the other, but not sure if that's an option for you

*cough*pellet gun*cough*

i can't stand birds 9 times out of 10...especially when i'm trying to sleep. There's one that likes to hang around somewhere behind my apt's bedroom window and start "singing" (i don't call it singing) at around 5AM, window doesn't open and too many neighbor's windows around to accidentally break...so that's not an option :(

Used to have a lot of Robins around my house in Alaska...kept waking me up early in the morning (ya know...since it's light at 3AM sometimes)...few days of hunting took care of that. ;)

Damn crazy Malkavians!

Cockatiels are tiny, your thinking of cockatoos and in comparison conures have nothing on a pissed off macaw! The guy whoI bought my sun conure from had a rescued macaw from a whore, who would scream, shout and swear at everything! Funny but deafening.

Edesign, the reality is that those Nandays are intelligent creatures, that are most likely bonded and go through many of the same feeling as we do in that situation.
Please dont listen to Edesign, as if you do "hunt" them and manage to kill one, the other may well die through shock, trauma and loss which is quite a horific way to go.
I know theyre annoying, but theyre just birds...very intelegent birds...

Oopps, cockatoos, yes yes i was. Thanks {D And I guess my perspective is a bit different, I've only heard a pissed off macaw screaming in a giant petstore or at an exotics show. I've been subjected to a screaming neurotic nanday in a tiny set of 3 rooms for most of a weekend (KILL!)

not to sound coarse...but it'd be nice and quiet then. personally, i'm entitled to some peace and quiet and if they won't dispurse through more peaceful methods...ah well, so be it :(

Just remember Malkavian (vampires?) nandays are just as smart as alot of dogs... go easy on them..
EDesign, thats quite pathetic, its just noise! Your saying that you'd rather kill than buy ear plugs?

You want to get one of those giant kids water soaker guns. A few days harmless revenge and they'll soon learn not to hang around near you.
This also works on Ducks and Swans while fishing.

Talking of noisey birds. I used to have a Cockeral that used to start at 1am. He was a particularly stupid bird. The odd thing is that all my neighbours loved hearing him. Mind you, they're particularly stupid neighbours.

read my post again...i said as a last resort. L-a-s-t r-e-s-o-r-t...

last1 Audio pronunciation of "last" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (lst)
adj.

1. Being, coming, or placed after all others; final: the last game of the season.
2. Being the only one left: his last nickel; as a last resort.
3. Just past; most recent: last year; the last time I checked.

number 2 should be read carefully

re·sort Audio pronunciation of "resort" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-zôrt)
intr.v. re·sort·ed, re·sort·ing, re·sorts

1. To have recourse: The government resorted to censorship of the press.
2. To go customarily or frequently; repair.

And have you ever tried wearing ear plugs all the time or all night? I have...it's NOT comfortable...

call me pathetic if it makes you feel better...but my sanity is a bit more important than a couple birds sitting on a wire. I work around heavy machinery and shop equipment for 11 hours a day...i personally enjoy being able to have peace and quiet when i get home. Not sure what you do for a living...but after having your ears grated on for 11 hours it gets to be a tad annoying, and squawking birds are no help.

i agree...super soaker might have the range you need to get them, if you have that brand over there.

Where did you write that then? Fancy editing your previous posts to make them say LAST RESORT? Then your little rant may have some validity behind it.
Im sure that a little noise is horrible, but then again i have tinitus, so get over yourself "does anyone else hear that ringing noise?".
Why not try and be a little more constructive and a little more tollerant like king bollock before sugesting to kill something for living.
