Hey everyone i'm new on this forum, and i need advices.
I found a baby spider 1-2 hours ago and it looks really cute so i decided i want to keep him,but have no idea what do i feed him with?Would he eat if i catch some flies(ali e or dead but still fresh),are they big bite for him?And do they eat just bugs or some fruits too?
By the way i'm terrified by the sight of spiders and i really don't like them and i had nightmares bcz of them, but first time in my life i caught myself and can surely say i like this one i find him look cool and cute, like Wall-E 😂.
He's turning around and following every my move and i find it really awesome (even tho it not might be for him) awesome and interesting.
So every advice will help, thanks 🙂.

Hello fellow Balkan person. That is a jumping spider, though im not sure what species.
They are predators and do not eat fruits at all. They mainly prey on insects that come close to them that's around their size. I'm not sure about feeding pre-killed since ive never really kept one,but they're excellent hunters capable of pouncing at prey before it has the chance to escape. As you observed they have large (cute!) eyes and can see and track prey without a problem.

If you use the search function at the top right, you might find some nice resources on jumping spider care, and possibly identification of your spider.

Use this thread as an example:

What an adorable jumping spider! Wall-E would be a cute name but it may be a girl but still. Good food for smaller jumping spiders are Drosophila Hydei (larger flightless fruit flies) and Drosophila Melanogaster (smaller flightless fruit flies) I buy Drosophila Hydei from PetSmart for my juvenile Platycryptus undatus female who (minus legs) is about 5mm.

It’s really important you look up and do research on Jumping Spider (Salticidae) care! They are cute awesome pets that are super easy to care for.

Here are some threads about Jumping spider enclosures!

Ohh so they're jumping spiders, but i've never seen one like this before, only the ones that are more like crab kinda looking lol.
And i have to say i'm suprised, would never imagine i'd meet a fellow Balkanian on here, and even more to get a first answer from him hehe. Not sure if it's allowed to write on any different language than English so i sticked to it...But anyway, thanks for the answer :).
Might not be a baby, most jumpers are quite small
Didn't knew most of them are this small.

Yeah i think the name would suit perfectly heh.
The only problem is i couldn't get neither of those two fly species since i don't have that kind of shop here that sells them.....
Maybe i could use a plastic/deli cup or some container with fruit in it and try to trap them, but i'm not sure if it'd actually work out, maybe the only solution by tomorrow would be to just release him in my yard or put him on a table (so no one would step on him) on my porch and let him find his own way if i don't get to catch any of the fruit flies....Thx a lot for the advice btw :).

Jumping spiders can go weeks without eating, so don’t worry about rushing to find food for it Immediately. In the next few days will be fine. If there is no other option you could definitely try to catch some, though flies from outside aren’t ideal, it’s still better for the spider not to release it as it can die from predators, but if you need to release it don’t feel bad. Depending on how big it is it may be able to eat house flies which you can buy from fishing stores if pet stores don’t sell them.

Its always a nice thing to see a person from the Balkans come here. ex-yu keepers tend to have a very outdated spider keeping habits,so im glad to see people come to this big hub of reliable information!
As for the language,i honestly don't know either. I'm sticking to English, just in case.
Welcome!

Oh that's good, they're indeed a very easy to take care of then, but with of course some knowledge (and i'm currently studying them :D).It'd be great if he'd eat house flies, they're not difficult to catch (even with a bare hand) so i'd get him a plenty with no problem :).Thanks again.

How big is the spider? Rough estimate? Not including the legs.

He's no bigger than a house fly,i dare to say some house flies i think are probably bigger than him.

So he's around 1cm (maybe even half of cm),he's the size of my pinky fingernail so really tiny.

As shown on this pic for example,he's smaller than a sunflower seed and size as a normal sized (beheaded lol) house fly.

And btw,i've placed a piece of melon to gather the flies to see if he'd catch any but he didn't,so i killed one and placed in fron of him and he still didn't do nothing until i've cut a fly into a half and gave him one of the half, and he grabbed it and now for 1 hour he's just holding the fly,i don't know if he's eating it or what?

My girlfriend and I have 3 different jumpers at the moment! This little guy may not be a baby, I know many stay very small (zebras for example). At that size I’d offer flightless fruit flies. Also, most jumpers like to climb so making sure you have a taller enclosure is more important than one with a larger floor space (depending on type of jumper).
I wish I could tell you the genus and name of him but I’m not 100% sure. Very cute though!

At that size if you need to, you can offer it house flies and it will be fine. Also, jumping spiders like to eat for a long time. If it had been holding it for that long, likely eating!

I assumed he was eating it since i guess he wouldn't grab it and not eat it but still wasn't 100% sure,i gave him another one after some time and he's eating it now, glad he's not shy lol. Thanks :D.

Feed it every few days from now on. Minimum every other day. Don’t wanna over feed! I accidentally gave mine a little too much by feeding her every other day, and she got fat! Now she eats with 2 days in between.

(Photo of her Super hungry when I found her vs super full)

Thank you! And yes, the first picture was taken in indirect sunlight from a window where I found her, and the second was taken under a bright desk lamp.

I’ve never heard of anyone feeding their Jumping Spiders Grass Hoppers, but I have heard them feeding crickets. So I’m unsure. But I would imagine a tiny grasshopper wouldn’t be much different than a small cricket. The grasshopper would have to be smaller than the jumping spider to make sure it doesn’t get hurt, also keep an eye on it if you do feed it one because they may bite the spider

I haven't yet seen a jumper that didn't like patrolling a nice stretch of wall so...... aren't they all Wall-E's
Oh I see! Sorry I didn’t get the joke. Nobody likes being the one who makes someone have to explain their joke. 😬
