That appears to be an adult Ant Lion. Sorry for the common name. I've got juvies around my house all the time. Have raised them to the adult stage a few times. I might have spoke too soon...insert foot. After doing some looking I think I'm wrong. Sorry.

The head and antenna shape, along with the wing veination and how it holds them suggest it is not a Mrymeleontidae (ant lion).

That's the genus I guessed for the other Megaloptera thread this morning, but I'm not convinced on this one yet, although it is most likely that.

Now I'm convinced. Bug ID'd. And anyone who tries to sight ID this to sp. is lying...

Very predacious and aggressive as larvae (hellgramites). Definetly predators as adults, but almost impossible to keep them or breed them in captivity, they need a LOT of flying room and fast running water to lay eggs in.

Looks like a Dobsonfly to me. They do give a nasty bite if you let them.

The bug pictured above is not a "dobsonfly", that's a different Genus (Corydalus as opposed to the Chauliodes pictured above.) Males of this genus do not have the enlarged mandibles that are found in Corydalus.
