My pet grass spider, (A fun friend in the genus Agelenopsis) created this while I was at work today. She’s never webbed anything like it. I’ve had her for four months now, could she has been holding onto eggs that whole time? Her enclosure isn’t quite baby proof at the moment.

No, but they can retain sperm many months or even years. I think Geometricus is the poster girl here. One mating and she can toss out around 15 sacs in as little as three or four weeks on out to a year or more.

Update! She lost interest in the egg sac, so I went ahead and dissected it. Crushed the eggs to be sure they were dead, but I’m fairly certain these guys were never fertile. Thanks for the help!
