As in the title... What Lasiodora flicks Urticating hairs the least, in general? I have heard subcanens can be pretty docile in general. What has been the experience you guys have had, and this question is to people that have owned most of or all the genus.

I know LPs can be flicky. If I had to get one species from the genus Id get the least Flicky one so so far it's difficilis. Wouldn't want no itchy Lasiodora hairs, or Theraphosa, Nhandu or Brachypelma. I only have two new worlds at the moment. One is a Psalmo so no urticating hairs, the other is a G iheringi which doesn't flick although obviously it can, just retreats under its Cork Bark hide where it stays a lot. Lasiodora subcanens is my favourite looking but just not sure how flicky it can be. They're a nice, big, affordable genus which is great.

I only own a Klugi and I've never been kicked at. But, I still am careful whenever I move something in the enclosure, not because she's going to kick. More so because of the hair left behind during molts etc

I have two LPs.... While they have never kicked hairs at me... I have picked up enough to know I never want them to. It was a single incident that I could have avoided (and continue to avoid by not grabbing molts when the fan is on 😂) and I learned my lesson... Because I've never picked on up since.

Not sure of you watch Dave's Little Beasties, but he has an old video of an LP that he received from a fan that was moving...and he spends several minutes marveling over the fact that this LP hasn't kicked hairs. Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it. 😂 I'd be lying if I didn't say it unlocked a new keeper goal...making my Ts so comfortable they don't feel the need to kick. What has been working for me: Space and multiple hides, one of them with an entrance and an exit (and turning the fan off when I do husbandry)

The one that get less bothered.
That's true but some do flick when you do maintenance thankyou for the reply I think I'll not get any Lasiodora. My G iheringi never flicks I'm just trying to be careful with my health, I keep Old worlds and a Psalmo besides the G iheringi so don't really get urticating hairs. Just looking what New World species I can get that don't really flick their urticating hairs as I know Psalmos are the best option really for that.

If you know what you want then get it. Nearly all large terrestrial NW will kick hairs

Anyone looking to avoid UrS (often ME) is really a crap shoot for NWs. There are few exceptions to the rule. The image I posted earlier. I've owned 2- not a flick. Same with T. cyano., not a flick. My AF G. pulchripes, raised her from sling- not once. Exceptions always

But the most common of species that people get like Brachy- forget it!! I've owned a few- total crap shoot. You place a cricket nearby and poof, off go UrS. The same for my T. albo. Raised her from sling- FLICKY, only one worse than her was my boehmei.

agreed all of my Brachypelma sp. are mad flickers, almost defeats the purpose of owning such stunning animals if you can't even open the enclosure to feed them

I had a Theraphosa apophysis which was in a different league to all my other NW’s with flicking hairs  Out of the big giant sized Ts I’ve owned from best to worst with hair flicking:

1. A genic - not flicky if sensible
2. LP - again not flicky if sensible
3. Nhandu coloratovillosus - bit flicky (other Nhandus are better 1. carapoensis 2. chromatus (ex Nhandu) 3. coloratovillosus is defo the most flicky)
4. Pampho antious - very flicky
5. Theraphosa apophysis - extremely flicky

However I’ve only owned one of each specimen (apart from Nhandu, I have one of each species) which doesn’t make it reliable

You could always use a large catch cup to cover tarantula zone while you work.

all tarantulas with UrS, even those that won’t kick at us, will drop UrS everywhere. And thats where there is actual more risk because its unsuspected.

cork bark, water bowls, bolus… its covered in it.

i have brachypelma emilia and nhandu. Still not sure if i am allergic or not. But when they kick, i am prepared. My nhandu doesnt even come out at me since shes comfortable in her burrow.

today i startled her and she ran off and even threw up a defensive posture. No reactions yet. When i got her, she would flick at everything.

the only night that was bad in my tarantula keeping history, is the first day i brought home my first tarantulas. This included the nhandu. I wasnt careful around the containers. It was probably the container walls and not the tarantula kicking that actualy got me to react.

start with a sling. It will have time to settle and will not be as less stressed then rehoming an adult.

this is my thread on allergies and UrS
