I want to transfer some growing jumping spiders into bigger containers... what is the best way to clean the containers to ensure that they are not dirty and full of bacteria? do you simply wash with water to clean them?

let me know your ideas to have a clean and sanitary environment for my jumpers...thanks!

i mean, unless you are reusing some moldy horribly disgusting old food containers i wouldn't reallly be worried about bacteria. when i am wild catching some of the best places to look for bugs are piles of filth. rotting vegetation and what not.

when i am washing stuff out i am actually more concerned about various chemical residues than anything. to this end i fill a container ~half full of really hot water and then make sure to never just pour concentrated cleaner on/in the container. usually what i do is put a tiny droplet of dish washing soap on my finger and then run the hot tap over my finger into the half full container. this way you minimize the chance of leaving a spot of concentrate residue anywhere

i've honestly kept jumpers in cages i have had other bugs in and not washed it out inbetween and had no problems. bugs, in certain respects, are pretty tough little dudes.

A scrub brush and some hot water will do the trick in most cases. If I need to clean something ghastly I use a very dilute solution of chlorhexidine (Nolvasan) and rinse for a looong time to make sure there is no chemical residue.
