What is my Caribena Versicolor sling doing?

I've had them for less than a month, and they stopped eating a little over a week ago, so I assumed they were in premolt. However, a couple days ago they climbed down from their web to sit in the moss, and haven't moved from this spot since. At first they sluggishly reacted to being lightly prodded with a Q-tip, but now they don't even move at all. Does anyone know what's happening?

Attempting to molt but it seems like it's failing to do so.

Have you been the enclosure moist? If you are then there's the answer.

Looks a little too wet in there…

what are your temperatures?

is there any ventilation in the lower part of the tank?

Too much moisture can cause suffocation if the ventilation is not enough, as it saturates the air with water vapour and displaces oxigen, this is what causes so much issues with avics along with keeping them overly dry.

It looks too moist to me, so if still shows any vital signs, I´d start increasing the ventilation asap, like opening the door etc.

Sorry for your loss. In my experience, any C. versicolor that goes to the ground and stays there usually passes. For the next one, keep dry with a water dish.

Sorry to hear that.

Just to make it simple to understand, if your enclosure has poor or not a very efficient ventilation system and/or your climate is humid enough, keep them on the drier side (fairly dry substrate with a water source). If your climate is dry and/or your setup has plenty of ventilation, then keep them more humid, simply by adding some moisture to the substrate and leaving it dry in between.

sorry for your loss. Looks like your enclosure is too dank. Is that a treehouse mini? probably wasn't enough air moving for the humidity levels

Im sad and angry.

not angry at you. Angry this happened.

please don’t let this experience be the determinating one.

this is a learning curve.

spend less money on an enclosure: buy a cheap container, or reuse one. Drill holes in it. Read the beginers guides on tarantulas.

keep it simple.

ask us for suggestions on your next enclosure, before your next tarantula. We are here for you.

we will give you all we know, to help you have the right enclosure, before you get your next tarantula.
