What is a "Giant" Millipede/Centipede to you?

How long/fat should a millipede/centipede be before you'd refer to it as a "giant" species?

For me, I live in Ireland and the longest native millipede I ever saw was a 1" T. Niger, so I pretty much regard nearly all species in the hobby as "giant", hence I refer to it as "the giant millipede hobby" (or the exotic invertebrate hobby in general, or just the exotic reptile/invert keeping hobby). So I'd say anything equal or bigger in combined length + width than bumblebee millipedes I'd consider "giant". You?

That's a great question, and I think it's going to be pretty subjective.

Now because I love sharing pictures, here's pics of my A. Gigas which are definitely "Giant" and my Ivories, which are, I dunno, "Good Sized Littles" lol

The size of this millipede is crazy :wideyed:!

My 23 cm millipedes are big for me ^^.

Speaking about centipedes only, I live in Italy so since we have (native) Scolopendra cingulata we are a bit used. Anyway isn't huge, let alone venomous, like Asian ones.

For me those dimension are lovely 'giant' enough

No, that one of the video is an Asian one... those amazing 'pede you can find in Thailand, Malesia, Vietnam etc

Our native S.cingulata (that you can find in the whole Mediterranean area, so in Croatia etc) aren't so big (and not so powerful, venomous talking) but man, trust me, beautyful as well and perfect "starter" 'pede :-s

My post is a little bit confuse, sorry ^^. I wanted to edit, but now I'm too late.
I saw that the scolopender in the video is in Thailand, but I asked google for S. cingulata, and 10 cm to 15 cm are still big enough. I have a giant respect for scolopenders. But it is a really beautiful species .

For me a centipede to be considered a giant needs to have at least a 9-10 inch body length. Maybe less if they're a stocky specimen.

Oh, I'd say even Ivory are giant compared to what most of us can find in our backyards!

I've heard from a few people that Ward's doesn't have any imports right now and they are selling CB juvies. Also I've noticed their prices have gone up. Not sure what that means for future supply, but if you can you might consider getting some sooner rather than later.

I was suppose to get 5 adults and called the day they were shipping and said they only had 1-2" CB juveniles. They said it would be as least October before they cleared quarantine. I also expect their prices to increase. Right now they are $60; up from $50 a year ago. But I agree with SFA; don't wait until it is too late.

That stinks, I was kind of hoping to get some adults from them, I think I'll try to get some this year. I do agree we need more of them in the hands of collectors so we have more people breeding them, but as of right now I have to many orders of bugs coming in the mail lol
