I think I've just done the number one thing which is frowned upon, I bought a T from a pet shop.
I couldn't help myself I felt bad wanted to give him/her a better home. The T couldn't even use the hide, the enclosure was way to small for it.

It's a Brachypelma klassi, in good shape and is my biggest T 10-12cm leg span, an absolute beauty, very skittish flung hairs in
My direction when trying to get it in the new enclosure.

Who wants pics?

It's not really frowned upon to buy T's from your LPS. What's frowned upon are the conditions that most of these animals live in under their care.

The problem with buying from a pet store is that it means they're just going to get another tarantula and care for it the same way-- poorly. It also adds to the "demand" so they keep supplying.

That said, if I saw a B. klaasi for sale at a good price I'd have to snatch that up too.

Nah... I have reasons to believe that a lot of U.S folks buy from those 'Pet Shops' but then, after, they 'Psssht!' about :)

I hope you're right. I figure they're gonna replace a T whether it dies under their care or gets purchased. I consider certain exotics an attraction for pet stores and they must like to keep a few in stock. I got my beardie at a pet store -- I consider it a rescue. A rescue! Mine was emaciated and starving -- healthy today (2 years in) but has overall stunted growth -- nice and chubby today, but will never achieve normal length. :(
Says a lot about pet store care to even call a pet store purchase a rescue. :(

I spent a lot on this T £55 No info on gender. other than it having no water too moist substrate and a enclosure way too small it's fine, is quite the explorer pretty calm as well a part from the hair flicking getting it into it's new home.
Honestly not sure how old it is although I've measured 12cm DLS.

Honestly, nearly any pet, sans cats and dogs, aren't cared for properly at Petco or petsmart.

I'm sure the op feels really guilty buying their new spider.......

I bought my seemanni from my LPS and I do feel guilty because I know they just got more afterwards, but she was in the same small deli container for 2 weeks and I just couldn't in my heart of hearts let her live like that.

It all just depends on what petstore you bought your new T at. Most are misinformed about most their animals and don't give them the correct care. Definitely a great find though and for a petstore to have a B.klassi is odd, most times its just a "rose hair", "stripe knee", or "pinktoe".
