I've been researching the etymology of numerous Theraphosidae genera to get a better understanding as to what these scientific names actually mean. This is for a little project I have planned that I may, or may not go through with. I've been pretty successful so far in my research, but Grammostola is one that has me pretty stumped so far.

Perhaps the most info I've found as to what their name actually means comes from this thread here, but none of these answers gave me a definitive answer.

Maybe looking into the etymology of other species that incorporate "Grammo-" into their name might help? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just looked it up and apparently "grammo" can mean "lined or striped", and "stola" means "stride". Interesting! I love delving into what some of the Latin names actually mean. Very cool.
