What do they eat?

I have this insect in my back yard and was curious as to what he may be looking for. Pictures are not that great since I was chasing him on the hose reel. If it is a plant eater, my wife would like for me to move him to the neighbors yard...

Oh AWESOME! That's a mantispid, Mantis Fly. They eat other bugs and they are cool as hell. It's like a cross between a fly and a praying mantis. Definately let them stay in your yard!

I looked for him today but could not locate him. He was pretty cool but he seemed camera shy and tried to run from me, I want to hunt him down to get better pictures.
