Ive seen a certain website has 1/2 inch slings up for $200 rn, and while I want one, and can afford them, I dont want to overpay for one (here in the us). Is this the going price for them these days?

It all depends on what your willing to pay. They are hard to find I think. I paid 500 bucks for a spider before, not this species though.

Im willing to pay the money, but if they are seen for less than 200 semi regularly (for this species anyway) then id hold off.

Only a few years ago they were 65$

Now they are at some ridiculous prices - not worth it for me

Hard to say on the price range on those species. The T. sp. Panama is one that has been stuck at like the $200 range because it seems not many people are working with them in the US. There is not a lot of them when it comes to people importing them. And if people are importing them, they certainly aren't producing them enough I guess. This is a species that I hardly ever seen myself. I've only seen one in person and that was a female and it was pretty. But it's not really a species I desire since it seems like finding a mate or pair would be a very hard challenge. But a price range is kind of hard for me to think about when it comes to this species, since there really isn't much to be known in terms of populations in the US. So I wish you the best and I would like to know what price you get your specimen for if you do get one.

That's about right for you guys with your ridiculous prices but they're getting more expensive here as well due to a combination of their scarcity and Brexit, I paid £35 for my first one around 4 years ago, the two slings I purchased a year or so ago were £50 each, I've just seen a well known seller here selling slings for £80 a pop.

It looks more dark pink-ish than red to me without proper lighting, but it was a decent looking T. to me. I wouldn't say it's out of this world, but it is nice looking.

I was also gifted a mature female Brachypelma smithi.

What can I say? People like me XD
Sounds a little suspicious to me, maybe there are things we aren't hearing about on here. What did you really do for those?

In all seriousness I imagine its nice to have friends who are in the hobby. I have plenty of friends, but people range from interested to utterly repulsed by my ts. Nobody I know owns tarantulas.

It's nice to be in an area rich with hobbyists, but it also helps to be nice to your vendors :) But the larger your collection gets, it starts to have a gravity all its own, and people will just give you stuff.

I stopped talking about how many tarantulas I have a few years ago because it started getting weird. I felt like I was accidentally hijacking the conversation because when people find out that you have more than 5 tarantulas, they freak out a bit and need to know more. If they find out you have 120+, they lose their minds.

Yeah cali seems to be the place for invert vendors, idk why. I always check out the local pickup and its ca something. I would think florida would have a pretty decent amount of vendors, but we really don't, or not ones im familiar with at least.

I never talk about my collection anymore lol. It does seem like when I do im using them for attention or something, and nobody has really taken a huge interest in them anyway. How are your slings? I know i said I decided not to get one, but I find myself coming back and rereading this thread.

To be perfectly honest, I was told that over half of the slings produced in that particular sac did not make it, and I lost 2 out of 3 slings, which I'm really sad about. By all accounts, this seems to be a fragile species, but I wasn't expecting a loss ratio like that.

One of mine died early on, but the other two seemed to be thriving; however, one of them inexplicably died about a month ago after reaching 1 inch dls for reasons I can only guess were molt related.

I rehoused the last one yesterday. It has burrowed and walled itself off, so I hope it is doing okay, and that it can regulate its needs better in a larger enclosure. I am crossing my fingers that it's female.
