I have a little 1 gallon that I originally bought for snails, but since I had a bunch of eggs hatch recently, they had to be upgraded. So now I kinda want a beetle, different species of snail, or something to go in this tank, but I don't want them to be cramped or anything. I'm a broke college student tho, so whatever it is needs to be relatively low maintenance, and not expensive. If anyone has any ideas, that would be awesome!

Springtails and isopods... You probably can't fit much else in a such small container.

Theres plenty of interesting isopods that could go in there, and im sure theres small enough roach species for that size.
Maybe you could do a small colony of dermestid beetles? For aquatics you could put some planarians, ostracods, amphipods, a leech, or a small species of waterbug.

Welcome to AB! Darkling beetles would have no problem in a 1 gallon.

I am also a college student, currently i have a pet vinegaroon. if you wanted to get a slightly larger tank, theyre one of the coolest pets. i keep mine in the common room and it makes a great conversation starter. super low maintenance too. if you were to stick with the 1 gallon, why not 1 or 2 blue feigning death beetles? it's a little cramped, but they are super interesting with extremely low maintenance

thanks guys! i ended up having to use the tank as a quarantine for garden snails (bc apparently having 2 tanks full of them already isnt good enough for me lmao)
