I've never kept spiders before(although I've had a large variety of other animals over the years), and I got gifted this box. What would be appropriate to keep in here?20 dollar bill for scale. I'm not planning on filling it right away I want to research first

Probably a juvenile terrestrial species. would fit. Example: Aphonopelma chalcodes juvanile.

I mean, pretty much anything terrestrial that's not too large would work. It all depends on your preferences and if you want it to fit an adult tarantula. If it's the latter, a D. diamantinensis would be lovely.

I do have a little update. They are giving me a taller one so I can have a jumping spider too!

I'm thinking of getting Aphonopelma chalcodes because I wouldn't mind getting it a bigger home as it grows. And my husband gets attached to my animals and likes having some that live long, I've heard those do.I used to keep rats and he would be sad when they passed on.Hes ok with the jumping spiders though we talked about it

I'm getting set up with a new job first but I'll post more when I get the money to get everything set up

Go look at tarantulas picture section, and the vivarium section for ideas . Basically a water dish , and a hide and non rough substrate like eco earth/coco fiber , top soil once strained sifted etc .. it’s not really that complex unless you make it that way . :artist: :angelic: Some enclosures are far overboard with decorations etc . But the spider just needs to find it’s food so don’t want too many things for feeders to hide behind or Under . I’ve had a lot of trouble with oversized enclosures and try not to do that, only got one 15g tank everything else is smaller .

Could I put a jumping spider in this one?If not what could go in here
You could with the smaller one but I think might be a bit overkill ? And anything apopriate sized will fit in those enclosures if you wanted a general idEa. jumping spider a I used to keep in pretzel jars or tall deli cups and similar containers. Bigger the cage harder to find its food , excellent hunters though .

There is no such thing as too big for a jumping spider. They will explore every inch of whatever you give them.
They might but you're talking about jumpers which are pretty small. That big tall enclosure is overkill. I kept mine in a small amac tall and it had plenty of room.

Update:I don't know if this helps but the large one is a (10.5 inchx 8 inch x 8 inch)3 gallon zoo med terrarium.The smaller one is 9 x 4.5 x 4.5 and is less than a gallon.

Putting a jumper in there would be like me putting a wolf spider or t under 4” in my 20gal long that’s empty right now .. they may utilize all the space but it’s a little crazy the distances they gotta travel to find food and water . The only difference is the t once full grown would be fine .
Go to the true spider section in forums and ask them what they put their jumping spiders in ! ?? :artist:  ℹ literalally housed 99% of wc jumpers in various sized pretzel jars .
