I saw a Nessus Sphinx lay an egg underneath a Virginia Creeper vine leaf. I also found this bigger, pearly looking green thing. So I looked around my yard and found two. The smaller thing is the Sphinx egg to give you an idea of the size. Anybody know what these are? They seem to be glued in the same fashion as the moth egg. They seem to have a shell like casing too. I feel like I can barely see something in there that looks like two little eyes....? Man I'm stumped!

I think they are most likely eggs from another species of sphinx moth.

You're in Austin? I live in Cedar Park Tx. Allot of Virginia Creeper around here. I'd be very surprised if they are eggs from another moth. Just too big. I'm keeping them so I will know the answer sooner or later. I'll post when that happens, unless someone gives me a positive ID on these things.

Haha!!! Yea! Same egg/pod thingy. Looks like the hatch is about to open. Hey man!, we don't have an "I'm scared" smilie! Oh yea, we peeps don't get scared on the AB!:liar: Ha! It sure is changing in there fast. I've probably seen allot of whatever it is that's going to come out of there. It's just that I've never seen this stage of development before.....of whatever it is. You know at first I thought it was a cocoon, a pupa of some kind because it seemed fairly large for an insect egg. But it is an egg, right(?). Every insect larva I know of doesn't create a clear cocoon like that. Well, some of the inner lining of wasp cocoons are translucent. Brown, but you can still see through them. I'll find out. Just a matter of time. Will report later.
