What are these other than Japanese?

You can hear them in loads of Japanese movies. They sound like LEGO sized mopeds with somone riding it who has his first driving lesson (Gas-break-gas-break-gas-breaaaaak: wee-ooo-wee-ooo-wee-ooo-wee-ooo-weeeeee-oooo)

some parts of asia, people keep them as pets for their call, usually chinese keep them

Well, 3-17 years undeground (depending on species) sucking the sap from tree roots. If you can figure out how to handle that side of it, ought to be a cinch ;)

Or just catch'em when they emerge.

Two words: potted ficus :)

If you had adequate patience, then it would be something to try...I was more wondering along the lines if they needed to hibernate or a dormancy period or something like that.
