What are signs of a gravid jumper

My female p. Audax does not seem to roam the enclosure as much as my other but I noticed more webbing around the inside. She seemed more skittish than the other so gave her the only walnut hide I have at the moment, but when I returned home later she was perched on top and not inside. She is still very plump but has spent a full day in place and just watches for movement almost like she is protecting the walnut but no threat poses. The inside of the hide does not appear to be all webbed up tho.

If she is wild caught or has been around males previously, then she may very well be gravid. One sign is the huge abdomen. Both of my audax girls' abdomens looked like yours before laying egg sacs. They usually make their sacs on the side of the enclosure or just somewhere high in the enclosure. I even have a hideaway at the top of one of my girl's enclosure and she made her sac to the side and top of it with some webbing inside..

Thank you for sharing your experience. She is wild caught from earlier this week, she seemed to be feeding well on caterpillars in the area so I thought she was just "stuffed" haha. My other females abdomen doesn't look as swollen.

She's most likely gravid then. I caught both of my girls at different times, but they both laid their sacs around the same time and both had huge abdomens.

She's probably gravid, I rarely see them that plump. Best thing to do now is just leave her be and let her adjust, maybe provide a bit more coverage near the top.

I noticed she was continually nervous so I switched here enclosure out of the main walkway of my bedroom and put up cardboard so she isn't bothered by my other audax that roams quite a bit.
Should I still offer her food until she stops taking it? I had to leave one fly in there for about an hour but she ate it, when offered a second fly it stayed in there while I worked all day so I released it to not stress her. I'll be getting some small meal worms tomorrow for both.

Suspicions were correct! She started spinning web at the door but when I opened the enclosure to mist that got damaged. She choose a more suitable location and overnight she had laid her eggs.

Wow, congrats! Given she's wild-caught, do you have any plans to release some of the babies back to their habitat? I would love to do something like that, just travel around my area seeding jumping spiders lol

I absolutely plan on releasing them into nature. Some I will bring back to the original area of capture, others ill relase around my house which is in a very rural area and the yard is full of habitat. I may keep a few of the slings to raise myself but will probably release both of my wild caught Audax as now I have the captive regius. It would be neat it I could raise some and possibly try and mate a couple pair to have my own captive audax.

Yeah, the orange or "halloween" morph as some people call it is highly desired. It would be cool to establish a captive line of those, but you would need to find another male first that isn't related.
ALSO, when that sac hatches those slings are going to be tinyyy. You need to make sure the enclosure is secure, because they can get through openings that the mom cannot.

Also, if the adult female has laid her egg sac you might as well keep her, maybe. I don't believe they live longer than 1.5-2 years, so she's probably quite old. Does anyone know if they die soon after their first brood, or if they can have multiple?

I was trying to figure out what to do about the tiny slings, but I was thinking of sealing possible exits with micropore tape in a way the adhesive will not be contacted like folding a peice over. That way it is sealed but can still breath. I'll have to return to where I found that female to check for others but weather here got cold and wet so the hunting is on pause.

I know people put pantyhose over the enclosure  Small enough that they cant get out, but the holes are big enough for ventilation. Also makes it easy to slip on and off.
Also congrats!

As funny as that is and may not be as elegant as other options that is super smart and practical 😆

So the 2nd audax female I caught outside my home ate until she was nice and fat and has decided to lay eggs as well. It has been around 3 weeks and I have read that it can be up to 4 weeks for them to lay. If this is true and she was fertile too I'm going to have to make a journal thread or something for the ones I keep and I will be spreading quite a few through out my yard.

Just as an update the orange morph female audax's slings have hatched around a week ago and are now moving around the nest and I have caught a couple on the outside layer of the webbing so I'm guessing soon I'll be moving them away from mom and seeing if she will lay again. I don't see a lot of journals on the forums, is anyone else interested in journals on these slings, the possibly other audax females slings if those eggs hatch, and the regal slings I have? I kinda want to anyway so I can have a way to look back and share just want to know if the community looks for journals.

They can lay egg sacs for every year they live for. <3 To my own current knowledge from information I have received from breeders.

I cannot wait to get babies from my own wild caught gals, and the ones we don't have home made enclosures for will be released into the backyard.

This is one of my newest ladies; Vira, short Elvira. Rescues/Capture Day is 6/10/24

My husband's lady is Venus and we have had her for roughly a week now.

Do you guys think they are pregnant? I don't see them drumming and doing their horny dance, so I am hoping that means I will eventually get some eggs?

ps. I will update this post tomorrow with a body picture of Vira; I just have not taken one yet. I am doing so tomorrow.

As a newb myself I found this very interesting to see.... any updates since your last? How did it all pan out since the hatchings? Did your other also hatch too? How many did you keep vs. release? Also, any lessons learned through this process?

I'm a complete newbie . I have a wild caught jumper. I'm not sure how to tell if it's a male or female. I gave her very small cricket. That's all I had at the time. I own lizards
