Well, it wouldn't really be the second. The single corn snake that I have now is actually my third snake(they have all been corn snakes). But I am wanting to get another snake and was taking a look at western hognoses. I know about the "venom" and "fangs" and they seem to be a little...is nervous the word I am looking for?...when you go to pick them up, but once you do they seem to calm down real quick. My question is, how do you think one would be as a "second" snake. what size tank should an adult need and would the general setup of a corn snake work? 75F cool side, 85F warm side, aspen bedding, two hides to regulate temperature, uth, etc?

The venom is harmless. And you really have to pushing them to bite so i wouldnt be nervous or worried at all to get one - even as a beginner. Make sure its a wellstarted one that feed regulary on rodents and make sure its a western hoggie (Heterodon nasicus)
Id skip the aspen and get soil or sand for substrate
Tank size 100x50cm or so

I've got a western hognose. They're great snakes, I've had mine for a couple years and I've never had a single problem with it.
Highly reccommended.
