Well, it's not a new tarantula...

When i went to the Taylor, MI reptile show today, my goal was to not buy any new ts. So, instead of breaking that resolution, I came home with a new baby Woma python! I haven't kept snakes in a while, but I saw her and just fell in love with her gorgeous coloration! She seems to have a very sweet personality too. Anyway, I just wanted to share some pics of my new beautiful girl! My crappy camera really can't do her justice though.

How much are womas going for these days? I remember a couple years back they were like insanely expensive which stopped me from getting one... I hope the price has evened out now that more are getting bred. I actually like the black-headed ones better, see any of those??

Is it normal for that species to have such a prominent spine? If not, then that snake is WAY underweight. D:

Squeak - Thank you :D
Peter - I bought her from Nate Oswald who had them for around $300-325, so a bit on the pricey side, but worth it because I know he has a great reputation and takes great care of his animals. I did not see any black headed pythons at the show this month (or in the past few months).
Vicky - that seems to be their general body type. I know the breeder through a friend and he takes excellent care of his animals, so I very much doubt she is underfed. :)

Congrats.

Looks like a normal healthy Woma baby to me.

Thanks guys! I fed her a fuzzy this morning... Being accustomed to ts, I was a little taken aback by how quickly the whole procedure was over! lol

Hatchling and juvie womas typically have that prominent spine, it could gain a little weight but is far from underweight. Womas tend to thicken as they age and the spine becomes less apparent.

Very pretty Woma I'm deeply jealous, I'm still waiting for them to get cheaper. I've only ever been able to justify paying that kinda money for a snake with my lav. albino retic. :) You can always send her my way if you get bored. ;)

Haha! I find it unlikely that will be the case...but I'll keep you in mind! ;)

That's actually a lot cheaper than they used to be... like a LOT cheaper (I used to see them periodically at upwards of $1000 a pop from various sellers on Kingsnake.com, and I almost never saw them at the shows).. so, another success story of captive breeding! now if can just find some a. melanocephalus... and hope it applies to them, too

Unfortunately, it seems like the melanocephalus are still up around $1000.

How sweet! How much money was she? She looks lovely, the womba python has all ways been on my wish list but they seem expensive!

Thanks Lisa! Womas get around 6 feet, so not too big. I named her Lucy for Lucille Ball, another redhead. ;)
