I found a weird looking insect chilling on a table. Picked it up and studied it for a bit. Kinda reminds me of a leaf insect, but doesn’t look exactly like one. I noticed that there are a lot of them on a flower bush near by, but I can’t seem to identify them. Can anyone help me? Their color ranges from dark brown to light tan/creamish.

Edit: I think I finally found what they are; kissing bugs. Definitely not picking up another one!

While it appears to be an assassin bug nymph of some sort for sure, I don't believe Wisconsin has the any of the "kissing bug" variety that feed on blood. I could be wrong, but I'll at least say I don't think you found a species that feeds on blood, if there happens to be any in Wisconsin. Most assassin bugs are actually quite beneficial, as they prey on many other pests that eat your plants. Still, I wouldn't want to be handling them, as their mouth parts can still pierce skin and leave a painful bite

Yeah I did some more research and I’m pretty sure it was just a nymph of a different assassin bug. I got a tiny rash after holding one but it wasn’t bad at all, plus I never felt any bite.
