I've had this girl for about 2 years and I've never seen her do this. I was wondering if anyone else has seen theirs perform this weird action. I've watched her groom before and it has never looked like this so I'm just curious.

Is your animal legal?
Selected species native to Thailand are protected under the Wild Animal Reservation and Protection Act B.E. 2535 (WARPA), which was last revised in 1992. All exotic species listed in the Appendices of CITES are also regulated by WARPA, under Chapter 4 - Importation

H Maxima is listed as potentially critically endangered. Too few specimens have been observed to even take an approximate census. Your animal may have come from Laos however which, due to extreme poverty, animal collectors will cause species to go extinct just to put food on their tables.
Personal responsibility is requested.

As one precaution, all Maxima live in complete darkness. So nobody knows short and long term effects of exposure to light.

Hi there :)

I super appreciate your concern on the legality of my spider as H. Maxima is endangered in the wild. I believe it's not actually an H. maxima as she has only ever acheived a max 5-6 inch legspan. My best guess would be that she's something more closely related to H. venatoria. The Breeders known as Tarantulas Canada is not too far from me and they not only sold captive breds of said species, but kept one for about a year as well. Tom Moran on Tom's big spiders also has a few videos showcasing his rehousing of his own giant thai cave huntsman.I was reaching out on here as I've seen other people mention getting their hands on them, and was wondering if anyone had seen theirs do the weird pedipalp dance thing seen in my video.

Your video format doesn't seem to be supported
Maxima has very distinct coloration and patterns. Venatoria female is a uniform dull brown.
Male H Venatoria typical
