I walked in and she was in this position in the dark I still need to get more plants for her new set up as I have only had her about 4 days now. It freaked me out because she looked like she was broken in half! Sorry I’m such a newbie if this is normal.

Thank you hahaha I was seriously worried because I had never seen one do that before. I really appreciate it!
You're welcome! :) Tarantulas certainly like to freak us out from time to time just to make sure we're paying attention lol

My female Avicularia avicularia M6 (metallica) always chills in that position. I have never seen any of my other arboreals with their abdomens flopped over like that, but she certainly thinks it's comfortable. It's funny that yours is also the same species.

I've seen my P. cambridgei chilling for a bit in very similar position. I wouldn't worry too much, just observe and appreciate.

I haven't caught my mature female Avic in that pose, but I have seen the slings do it a few times, and I also have a picture of my Psalmopoeus cambridgei with her belly resting on her log.

Mine does some weird stuff with her abdomen too! She sort of wiggles her whole butt and her spinnerets twitch while she climbs. Weird and cute.

My P. metallica does this all the time. Maybe it’s a way to cool off or something by lifting their abdomens into the air?

HERES THE NEW SETUP. hopefully she moved now because she doesn’t travel far from the spot she’s in right now and it’s been a week.
