Yes, you use a water bowl for scorps/t's(just water) and gel for feeders.

When I purchased my Emp they sold me gel. They said it would prevent bacteria.

It will prevent bacteria, if the alternative is a wet sponge. And that is precisely what most pet stores end up thinking they need. A water dish alone is fine, and is preferred. Tarantulas (and I would assume scorps) have trouble drinking "gel" and do great with a water dish.

Happy Turkey Day!

My scorp doesn't seems to being having any problems with the gel, but the question is, is the cricket water gel a suitable subsitute for regular tran/scorp gel.

Water gel is for creatures that need water but will drown in it if they fall in it, crix and such. It is not great for things that need water to drink and bath in. Try some yourself and see if it is any good, would it satisfy you? can you wash with it?

Sure it is marketed for Ts and scorps but that is marketing, they know nothing about what they are selling it for just that misinformed people will buy it.

Look it up! That gel is the same stuff in baby diapers that absorb the urine, it is only packaged with water in it. Buy the powder from a chemical dealer and make your own.

Search this forum here for water gel and see what has been said over and over "it's water it's gel but it's not for Ts and scorps"

Thanks Thaedon. I am going to stop using that stuff. What kind of what bowl do you recommend in comparison to body size?

The main difference is that stuff is a huge ripoff, You can get real water crystals that will fill up one of those jars with one tablespoon of crystals and some water. www.water-sorb.com, large polymer is what you are looking for. It doesn't dry up in 2 days like the quencher crap either. LOTS cheaper too.

What kinda stuff you have? The dry form? PM me.
I was actually getting ready to buy from www.water-sorb.com since I have been talking to Xanarx about it and how crappy the store gel is since it dries up in 2-3 days in both my crix bucket and roach colony.

Ehmmm.. why use water gel or crystals for scorps? they are pretty happy with a dish, some even take a bath in it :D for critters ? well if you take a small plastic container, drill a hole in the lid and stick a piece of cloth down, like a wig.. works perfectly fine.. and its awfull cheap instead of gel and stuff..

I would use shallow to deep bowls, it just depended on what was available. But a full grown emp could handle a dish 1 to 2 inches deep and long enough for its length without a problem of drowning, they can use their tails to push up with if need be.

If it is smaller you can put a few pebbles at the edge of the bowl to facilitate a ramp.

Cheers

Yeah I don't use em for the scorps, just a water bowl. Crystals go to roaches, crickets and the like.
