The first pic was takin by kid/customer that hangs out at my store. Not bad, huh? The last one I took with my Picture phone when I first got him,(notice the quality). But dont be fooled by the pic, hes pretty cool with me handling him now. I dont blame him for bitting me.

Now sure there is a law against owning a monitor for your hometown but... ya can't get in trouble if nobody knows you have it. Besides you get caught say its something else, call it something like a southern venezuelan sungazer. People who make and enforce such legislation are so damn dumb they'd be none the wiser. I know a guy in the same situation as u with a blackthroat monitor everyone in the town knows by some dumb name like that. Besides when was the last time you heard of a big police Herp bust?

Hmm, a couple of weeks ago a guy in queens was busted. They confiscated his whole collection of of Boids. Last year another guy in manhattan was busted too (he was NYPD too). Again his whole boid and viperid collection was taken. Someone else was busted was trying to sell a madagascan radiated tortoise on kingsnake.com (for $18,000). Apparently he had no paper work for the protected tortoise. He is currently being prosecuted. It happens a lot more often than you think. It just doesn't always make the news. Oh and most DEC (department of environmental conservation) personel know exactly what most species look like. If they are not sure, they have plenty of expert contacts.

To add to what Mike said, it's also very difficult to conceal the fact you own a large illegal reptile.

I once owned a spectacled caimen (illigal in VA). When it was a baby, it was just one more herp in my collection, but as it grew I found more and more people knew about it. Suddenly, I'd be at a party or in a pet store and complete strangers would walk up to me and say "hey, you're the guy with the alligator right?" Yikes! You know all those friends of yours you think you can trust not to tell anyone about your big lizard? Forget it, they'll blab. Not to the police, but to others, but who knows when it will get around. Evertually, your neibors will find out and complain to animal control and they'll be at your door and you're screwed. Not worth it, IMO. I ended up giving mine away to a guy in SC.

Well for all you good lil law abiding citizens if you really want em try and change the laws. Otherwise do what thousands of others do succesfully and keep you jewels hidden away for only you to admire.
