I have three dwarf frogs in a 2 gallon tank. They seem pretty comfortable and they spend a lot of time just hanging out in the decor. I live in NC and in the winter there's a 2 to 3 month period where the temperature inside drops below 70. 68 to be exact. I know people who have successfully kept theirs at this temperature but I'd like to get a good small water heater to keep the temperature just a few degrees warmer.

Any suggestions on a heater?

With a tank that size a water heater is scary. If you leave for a weekend the water level could drop and you'd cook what ever is in the tank. It can happen pretty fast. Ive never used a heater on my small tanks, maybe an overhead light might warm it up a little.

Thanks! I've seen some 7-10W heaters at petsmart for under 15 dollars. I will only need it for 2-3 months a year and I'm not even sure I'll need it. My thermostat doesn't drop below 68 in the winter and the tank is located right next to the thermostat. I have african dwarf frogs in the tank and nothing else so I'm not sure if it would just be better to let the tank get cooler in the winter. I've read 65-85 F is good but there's also tons of advice on keeping them around 75 all the time or they will die. But I've also read plenty of information that if you don't keep tarantulas above 74 degrees F they will die which I know from experience is wrong for just about all species.

I'd be nervous about the tank over heating too.

Thanks for the help!
