I only have one spider but I really want to feed it roaches for several reasons. Problem is, none of the pet stores around sell them so I'm thinking of starting my own little colony.

But problem is, how can I really control the size? As I said I only have one tarantula so I need a VERY small amount. I usually feed it a couple of crickets every week or two so I guess one medium roach every week or two would do. I have no need or desire for hundreds of roaches for no reason. I can't think of a way of having that small of a colony. Is this possible?

Since you only have one tarantula, youd be better off just buying crickets locally as youve been doing. You could still start a roach colony and if possible, maybe get a type of lizard or frog to eat some excess roaches. It may also be possible to seperate the males and females if you dont have too many to stop breeding when necessary.

Since you only have 1 T you could always sell of the excess on craigslist or even on here . Or do what I did ...buy more t's ;)

You could try a small hisser colony and feed off the nymphs.
