my ball python..that i recently purchased after many long days and nights of pleading my mother to allow me to have one..(lol i guess i taught her to like snakes)..Has a retained eye cap...not only that, but he also i found out has a dried up blind right eye ball...its not a fun experience for a first time ball python owner. he also has a respatory infection (damn those pet stores) well i know where i can get one for half the amount i paid for the one with the problems...and its much healthier..9 am the store opens..gotta call and hold at least one ball python...wish me luck..cause i cant keep this sick animal..i dont want to jeprodise (sp????) the health of my other animals.

p.s my punctuation sucks right about now...due to the amounts of mountian dew...steroids, and medicine i have been taking...DONT FORGET THE TIME...lol

Be sure to clean and sterilize the enclosure if you are exchanging that one for a new speciment.

Check them carefully before buying. Look for missing scales, check the eyes and mouth and facial pits for signs of mouth rot and infection. Check the eyes carefully for eye caps and excessive discharge. Listen to the breathing for rattling or burbling. Also check the anal vent and inquire about feeding. Make sure the snake has good body weight and holds your hand back as you hold it.

With something as common in pet stores as balls you really need to inspect them very carefully. They move through in such quantities that their overall health and care is usually suspect.

retained eyecaps

I've got a male childrens python who has two eyecap scales that do that, about 2out of every four months he's blind. I just apply caramax lip balm to them and it seems to help loosen up the old skin quite a bit. when he's looking better I just give him warm water soaks.
