In the last week, flies have been abundant in my violin colony, so there has been lots of faunication going on. However one of the males today tried to mount a sub adult female.
I must say im a little confused. Anyone who can explain why this would happen please feel free to do so...

not much of a post - sorry...

Men... they will mount just about anything won't they? Oh wait...

Some male mantids are like that. They get to a certain age and try to mount anything that resembles a female mantis, especially if an adult female is near (I would imagine because of the pheromones). A stick, a plant, your finger... whatever.

So easily confused.
