Only info I've read concerning how long they live said, "believed to be long lived". I've kept adults for four years. I've had them breed before. But the females I have had died after the offspring leave. Don't know if that's one of natures rules or that it just happened to the ones I have had. I never have reared one from birth to death. But I have had several breed. I just let the babies go. I have a guess on a life span but it would only be a guess. They are very easy to keep if you ask me. Similar to the way you keep burrowing scorps. They do like to dig. I would put about 5 inches of substrate in a terrarium with a rock to burrow under. Drink like emps. Not communal. Females will fight to the death if confined with each other. Males tend to leave each other alone. Interesting to watch them dig. Like front end loaders.

The male will keep bugging the female. They don't like to be around each other if not mating. Even though males can tolerate each other for a while, they are loners. Live alone, solitary. They will get stressed out and feel like moving away from each other if together. I think the range is in the S. east from Florida and staying South and going west to New Mexico and Arizona. They may go farther west, I don't know. But I think there is a big gap from about Uvalde tx, eastward to at least Louisiana. I would like to here more about their range myself. I pick them up in west tx. Someone told me they have good luck finding them on hwy 101 around El Paso. Most anywhere in West tx. crossing the road at night. Males have bigger/longer pincers.

Yes, they are quite docile. And yes, they can shoot acetic acid (vinegar!) but mine only has once. He does aim his whip at me, and lets me know HE is in charge, but he's never done me any harm.

For a decent care story, go to http://www.key-net.net/users/swb/pet_arthropod/index.htm
