The way I do it is a bit different than others. i figured I show this way.
The vents i found to be awesome are from tarantulacages.com. They look real nice and are really practical.
Its made out of aluminum which is a very soft and light metal. If you bang it, it can stretch and be shaped easily. Knowing this I secure my vents with a hammer.
The tutorial pretty much explains the procedure. You have to work very carefully and with a steady hand so as to not hit the plexi instead of the edge of the vent. I use 1/8" plexi and when you place the vent in the drilled 2" hole, there is about an 1/8" lip that protrudes past the plexi. Banging this will flatten it to the plexi real easily. I use a light hammer to manage the strokes easily. It doesn't take much to bend it and since it stretches at the same time as you bang it, it forms a nice smooth round lip that grabs the plexi making the vent permanently attached. It will not move after you do this so you might want to make sure its held steady where you want it (if you care about that) as you proceed to bang it.
Here the tutorial

Heres a close up pic of how it looks after the banging with the hammer.
