Thats awsome..I use to live Around Kootney Lake..There were huge turtles that use to crawl on to the road and get hit...I cant even count the times we had to rescue turtles that were injured that wandered on to our lawn.

Nice turtle. I recently ran onto a very colourful male a few weeks ago. It did have the typical red eyes, but I checked the plastron as well. There are a few pictures here if you are interested.

I wonder if red-eyed females are occasional exceptions to the rule, or if the chances are equal? Every male I can recall examining has been red-eyed, but I really can't remember noting females whose eyes betrayed their plastron evidence. But then, I don't see very many these days and I wouldn't have given it any thought as a youth.

Such a beautiful animal. I remember the days when I could go outside and find a box turtle. Alas, no more.

I really have been inspired to start breeding them sometime in the future. My mom found two mating the other day. Nice to see they're making a comeback around here. CB turtles would only help them more.
