so sorry for bugging everyone on here, i'm a newbie to this site and this is kind of an urgent question if anyone can help me:

yesterday i deloused a few of my hissing cockroaches (about 25 or so), i work in the bug area of a museum and it is my responsibility to take care of these critters. this process involved dipping them in flour then in water and drying the suckers out for a bit. (it works SPLENDIDLY, btw) This actually got rid of all of the mites (give or take a few) ANYWAYS, i was the one in our little roach-bathing assembly line that checked the kiddos before i put them into the decontaminated case, and after being in that water, needless to say that they were struggling quite a bit.

in the struggle, i'm pretty sure that some of their bristles got stuck in my fingers (i was holding them just below the head on the top of their backs and they were using the bristles against my legs to try and shove out of my hands) today i found that my fingertips looked bruised and i can see the ends of some of the bristles (it looks like getting small splinters)

any ideas on how to handle this or if this would be dangerous? i looked on-line and found no suggestions and y'all seemed knowledgeable. :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH IF YOU CAN HELP! oh, and this doesn't itch or hurt btw, i just don't want it getting worse and don't think i can afford a doc visit

the bruising is caused by how hard the push with there spikes and how thick they are it will go away in a few days

yeah the spines will go away...but my worry is for the roaches...i also did this but its was about 4 months ago and ive found that some of the flour gets stuck under the shell and when it gets wet it almost is like cement and can cause shedding problems.... also it can stick to thier feet and cause them to have have problems walking...but yes it is the best way of getting rid of the mites

oh geez

thanks for the heads up. the mite problem was getting so bad that i think it was irritating the roaches.

but now since you said that, i'm giving my children an extra rinse or two the next couple of days to make sure i got it all out.

The body tends to push out foreign matter. They will be expelled over time. Just keep your hands nice and clean and you'll be fine ;)
Interesting re-lousing method. I've had the good fortune of not experiencing mites on my hissers... yet.

I had the same problem with some sea urchin spines in the tips of my fingers. The doctors said that they can operate to remove the spines, which meant slicing open the tips of my fingers but I wouldnt be able to use them for much a few weeks OR I could just leave them and the will eventualy come out on their own .....which i did and it took approx 5 weeks from day one.

Update!

I almost had a panic attack getting out of the shower, because the bruising was almost black in color. D: turns out that i just think it was the heat makin my blood run a lil faster and the fact that my fingers were shriveled up that made it look so bad, because the next day my fingertips looked almost perfect (i can still see a few bits in my fingertips)

so if you have this problem or come across it, don't worry bout it! (although you might want to put neosporin on em, i did that) thanks to those of you who listened to my whining ^^

oh, and my boy-toy gets major points because he cant stand these critters and he held my roachy hands after seeing the bristles and bruising. <3 ahh, love
