These are truly beautiful. What is the reasoning behind their "Zig zag" patterning of their web? I've always wondered. Does it have a use or is it some kind of reinforcement?

Called stabilimenta. Used to warn birds of the web's presence and is suspected to attract certain kinds of insects. Several species of orb weavers employ that web. A. diadematus, several argiopes, some larinioides and a few others.

Thank you for the explanation. A very intelligent system.
