Anyone have a specific prefrence between the two? I heard vermiculite was bad about adhering to a scorps exoskeleton giving it a somewhat metallic sheen. Only a real problem if there are no more molts due. Perlite i've read about but haven't heard from anyone who actually uses it.

Why not just use peat moss? Most people here use it. The only thing I use sand for are my Androctonus spp. I use peat for everything else.

perlite is that white stuff u sometimes see in pots at stores.

the surface of perlite is supposedly dangerous to scorps.

I use pete for everything as well unless the scorps are desert species in which case I use sand or maybe sand/pete mixture. I stay away from soil and vermiculite as those things can mold easily. Coconut fibers can also mold and get pests easier like mites but if kept dry have no real problems if kept clean.
