This story ran on the ABC news the other night, not that I ever watch the ABC normally, it'a a rubbish station, about a vegetarian nectar eating bird here called the Rainbow lorikeet which had previously been thought to be vegetarian nectar eater exclusively, but has nice been discovered it will take meat if offered.

Reminds me when everyone shouted down my proposal that Ts could ever eat artificial food; if anything this proves we have much to learn about animal nutrition and there is no one solution that is right or wrong.

Wow, those people were jerks on your thread!

Anyways, interesting. I'm not that shocked though, but it's a nice refresher of how fast adaptations can appear in certain organisms. :)

Wow, your thread didn't stand a chance...

People will always defend the choices they make for their animals (be it out of habit (it works, so why bother investigating any further) or because they tested variations in the long term). As long as your thought about artificial food has not been tested to be feasable (or even preferable in some cases) or not, a discussion sure will get them on their toes (try sticking your finger in the breastfeeding vs formula feeding discussion, haha). Then again, people with terraria try to mimick the natural habitat (in tupperware, heh), which yeah... Includes certain types of food. ;)

Nice article by the way. These exceptions to the rule help to keep people on their toes. Fauna didn't flourish because it was stubbornly picky :)
