Hello, I was just wondering what kind of Praying Mantids are indigenous to North/Mid Utah and where I could order some in bulk online to keep other less desirable insects out of my Aunts corn field/garden.

All answers are greatly appreciated,

Billy

I'm sure Chinese mantids are in Utah
i have my doubts you will be able to get a bulk order this time of the year.....in the winter and early spring you can order cheap egg cases
chances are there are already mantids inside your aunts garden....you just aren't seeing them ;)

at night, we would find hundreds near lights (the BIG ones, about 2.5"). brown or green (sorry don't know the sci name), probably the same species, chillin out and snatching the moths that were attracted to the same lights. are you in the city or outside limits?

You'll find both Chinese and European mantids in northern Utah. You can buy some at the local nursery, but as mentioned earlier it may be too late in the season for that.

I'm in Salt lake City as well, and I notice them (early instars) showing up in late May, typically. I agree that you probably already have some around. Certain localities have more, and some years there are bumper crops. One year, in September, I went to Deer Creek Reservoir and found them in droves a few hundred feet from the shoreline. A few hundred feet to one side, there weren't any, even though the terrain and vegetation were similar.
